Super Button Mashers interview: Isaac Bidwell
The “Super Button Mashers” exhibit opened this past Saturday and drove Chicagoans bonkers with arcade madness. The show continues on until March 3 at OhNo!Doom. I will continue on as well with artist interviews, such as this one with: Isaac Bidwell!!!!
- What possessed you to choose this game as the subject of your piece?
I wanted to go old school..or maybe I watched “Fistful of Quarters” too many times, but DK is where it’s at. After I created “Kong”, I felt motivated and decided to draw the Mario Bros as..the Shinning Twins. I’ve been told it’s pretty F’in weird. Mission Accomplished!
- What was your favorite video game as a youngin’?
My lust for the Nintendo was out of control in the 80’s. Unfortunately my family was strapped for cash and I got a Sears “Atari”. So I rocked Astroids like a champ, even got the game score to flip….
- Playing anything now?
I sold my X-Box 360 because it’s evil. It was the ultimate distraction for me. I use to go to Halo 1 game nights, with 12 tvs going, playing crazy tournaments…as soon as they figured out how to make Halo playable online, I was way too hooked.
Xbox Connect is starting to call my name though….
- What amazing projects are currently devouring your time?
I publish handmade artbooks that showcase emerging international artists, I’ve been preparing to do more with that. As for the art, this show was a lot of fun, so I’m creating more pop culture work. My current image is Scooby and the Gang as Horror Characters. I’m living the dream!
